I will be looking to set up and run several different training sessions and workshops once I have settled in Wales. As you may already know, I plan to travel the UK quite extensively so I will be looking to run workshops and training courses around the UK not purely in South Wales.
Getting off ‘Auto’
This training session will cover the fundamentals of photography. Focussing on the relationship of Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. By the end of this session, you will be able to confidently switch from the ‘Auto’ mode on your camera to either, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual. Whilst using Auto mode on your camera is absolutely fine (especially with the camera technology these days) for basic travel snaps and ‘selfies’, if you want to get more creative with your photography, understanding how these 3 functions relate to each other will prove necessary and vital.
I’ll look to do this training session either on a 1:1 basis or a small group setting.
Low key portraiture
My personal favourite sort of studio lighting setups. Basically true low key photography is simply portraits taken using a single light source (and possibly a reflector). I’ve always been a fan of black and white photography and for me, lowkey lighting lends itself beautifully to mono images. The beauty of lowkey photography, not only the very dramatic images that can be produced, is the fact that it requires very little equipment. A simple backdrop (even a pop up one will do) and a single light source (continuous or flash) and optionally, a reflector. The simplicity of this style means you can set up a ‘studio’ in a very small space. Ideal for photographers who want to provide ‘in-home’ portraiture shoots and still get that ‘professional portrait’ look and feel.
These training sessions will initially be held on a 1:1 basis at either my premises in South Wales or indeed at your home when I am in your area.
Hosted Landscape Photography
Once I am settled in South Wales, I will also look to offer hosted landscape training ‘breaks’. These will be either 1, 2 or 3-day breaks. Included in the price would be accommodation at my home for the duration of your chosen session. Including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preliminary itinerary for the course:
Day 1: 9 am – 12:30 pm – Understanding the fundamentals of landscape photography 1:30 pm – Out in the Brecon Beacons to put theory to the test
Day 2: Hiking/driving to more areas within the Brecon Beacons including ‘waterfall country’ region
Day 3: Shooting models in landscapes. If you have opted for the 3-day session, then day 3 will consist of working with a model on location.
Model Group Shoot days
If you would like to learn how to shoot people in nature this is the session for you. We will have a model with us throughout the day. Locations and models outfit (or lack thereof) will be dependant on season. I will host various model days covering all genres from portraiture, fashion, lifestyle, swimsuit (in rivers, in front of waterfalls etc), lingerie and artistic nude. Groups will be kept small, a maximum of 4 photographers per model. Should demand necessitate it, additional models can be hired for the day to allow for larger groups, but we will NEVER have more than 4 photographers to 1 model. This is to ensure you get several hours of shooting time and a minimum of 3 different locations during the course of the day.
These sessions will be run and held in South Wales and primarily within the Brecon Beacons Park. Accommodation can be arranged at an additional cost per night.
Studio Portraiture 1:1
Looking to get some exposure to working with a model in a studio environment? Need help with direction and getting the best out of your client/model? This 1:1 session is for you. Choose either a half-day (4 hours) or full-day (8 hours) session. A model will be available to you for your entire session and I will be on hand to provide camera, lighting and posing assistance.
If you would be interested in any of these training sessions and/or workshops please do get in touch.
