I spent the day (Friday 12th April) tutoring a dearly departed friends teenage daughter on the basics of photography. She was very keen to do a shoot in rapeseed fields and bought along her bestie to play model for her.
I focussed primarily on composition and getting her to observe her surroundings for interesting backdrops and avoiding background ‘noise’. Her father was a very keen photographer and it is an absolute privilege for me to be able to assist her in developing her own love for photography.
We started off in local rapeseed fields. This time of year, where I live is pretty much surrounded by them, so we didn’t have to travel far. I then encouraged the young photographer to direct her model (bestie) into poses and then recommended best camera settings (was a little tricky as she uses a Canon DSLR whilst I use Nikon, so finding settings was a little painful).
Clare Country Park
We then drove over to Clare Country Park to continue the tuition. Clare Country Park offers several backdrop options, including winding tree lined paths, a river, a small lake, and medieval priory ruins.
Again the emphasis was on developing the ‘eye’ and having the young lady looking for interesting locations to pose her model.
